A new base item field and an IDTF number field in the item master, along with more flexible EAN13 entry, make item maintenance easier.
Previously, the lack of a dedicated base item field often caused the existing alternative item notification to pop up unintentionally. With the new field, the base item can now be stored cleanly in the item master without annoying error messages. Even more important for many food companies is the new IDTF number field: companies that regularly undergo GMP+ audits previously often had to manage the IDTF number in additional fields or outside the system. Now, it can be stored directly on the item and automatically transferred to subsequent documents such as planning or freight orders, which significantly simplifies traceability during audits. The available IDTF numbers are managed centrally via the declaration text management, ensuring that quality assurance and purchasing work with the same consistent values. Smaller friction points have also been eliminated: EAN13 validation now optionally accepts 12-digit codes without a check digit, which saves time especially for imported items with different barcode lengths, and overlapping "available from/to" periods now allow for the correct mapping of seasonal items whose availability is interrupted at the turn of the year.
You can activate the base item field via the UI configuration in the item master; it will then appear in the "Other" tab. After activating the corresponding configuration, you will find the IDTF number field in the main data section of the item master; the selectable IDTF numbers must first be created once in the "IDTF" declaration text group. Customers who have previously repurposed the "Item Type" field for IDTF purposes can transfer their existing values to the new field using a provided migration script. You can enable the extended EAN13 validation via a separate UI config flag; after that, 12-digit entries are automatically recognized as EAN13 without a check digit. The packaging unit now automatically displays the appropriate unit next to the quantity field. Before converting existing IDTF values, we recommend running a test of the migration script on a copy of the database.
