Two newly, specifically requested fields are now available on the item master: a field for the base item and an IDTF number field, which among other things is needed for GMP+ audits and can be used from the disposition or freight order onward. This is complemented by more flexible EAN13 validation, which in future also allows 12-digit entries without a check digit, as well as several smaller detail improvements to supply relationships and packaging units.
Until now, the lack of a dedicated base item field often meant that the existing alternative item message would pop up unintentionally. With the new field, the base item can now be stored cleanly on the item master without a disruptive error message. Even more important for many food companies is the new IDTF number field: companies that regularly undergo GMP+ audits in particular previously often had to manage the IDTF number in additional fields or outside the system. Now it can be stored directly on the item and automatically carried over to follow-up documents such as the disposition or freight order, which significantly simplifies traceability during audits. The available IDTF numbers are maintained centrally via declaration text management, so quality assurance and purchasing work with the same, consistent values. Smaller friction points have also been eliminated: EAN13 validation now optionally also accepts 12-digit codes without a check digit, which saves time especially for imported items with a different barcode length, and overlapping "available from/to" periods now allow seasonal items whose availability is interrupted over the turn of the year to be correctly represented as well.
You activate the base item field via the UI configuration on the item master; it then appears in the "Other" tab. You'll find the IDTF number field, after activating the associated configuration, in the main data area of the item master; the selectable IDTF numbers must first be created once in the "IDTF" declaration text group. Customers who have previously repurposed the "item type" field for IDTF purposes can transfer their existing values to the new field via a provided migration script. You unlock the extended EAN13 validation via its own UI config flag; after that, 12-digit entries are automatically recognized as EAN13 without a check digit. The packaging unit now automatically shows the matching unit next to the quantity field. Before converting existing IDTF values, a test run of the migration script on a copy of the database is recommended.
